Daniel Lewis, MD
Dr. Daniel Lewis, a board-certified family medicine physician with Takoma Medical Associates, has a passion for sports medicine. He completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Wake Forest University, as well as received a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine.
Dr. Lewis received his undergraduate degree in biology and history from East Tennessee State University and went on to receive his medical degree from the university’s James H. Quillen School of Medicine with a curriculum focus on rural health. He was recognized by the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians as the Outstanding Student in Family Medicine award during his senior year.
Dr. Lewis completed a family medicine residency at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, S.C. where he was recognized as South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians Outstanding Resident of the Year in 2007. He also received the prestigious AAFP/Bristol-Myers Squibb Award for Excellence In Graduate Medical Education as a second year resident physician; this award is only given to 20 resident physicians across the United States per year.
Dr. Lewis enjoys treating whole families, as he is aware that a patient’s health involves a wide array of influences independent of themselves. He enjoys providing care across the whole spectrum of life, in all age groups. He is particularly interested in lifestyle intervention as a method to treat chronic disease when possible. In addition, he sees anyone involved in any level of athletic activity, ranging from “weekend warriors” to professional athletes.
Dr. Lewis is married with three children; he is active in the community and serves on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Greeneville and Greene County. He also volunteers his time as a sideline physician for sporting events at area high schools in the community, as well as at Tusculum College.
